Privacy Notice

This notice describes what happens to information about you when you read Scenic View. The short version: very little is collected, and nothing is sold, shared for marketing or used to build a profile of you.

What we deliberately leave out

• There are no reader accounts, logins, comment systems or paywalls.
• We show no advertising and work with no ad networks.
• No analytics package, tracking pixel, heatmap tool or social media plug-in runs on these pages.
• Typefaces and pictures are delivered from our own domain, so opening an article does not ping an outside font or image service.

Information that does exist

Technical logs at our host. The company that hosts the site keeps brief server records when pages are requested, such as the IP address, the time, the page asked for and basic browser details. These records serve one purpose: keeping the service stable and spotting abuse or attacks. They are held only for a short period before being removed, and we do not combine them with anything else.

Your cookie banner answer. When you accept or decline on the banner, your browser remembers that choice in its local storage so the question does not reappear on every page. It stays on your device and is never sent to us. The cookies page explains how to remove it.

Messages you send us. If you email the address on our contact page or use the form there, we receive your address and whatever you chose to write. We use it solely to answer you. Correspondence is normally deleted within two years, sooner if it is no longer needed.

Legal basis

Under the UK GDPR and the EU GDPR, we rely on legitimate interests: running a secure website and responding to people who get in touch. Because we collect so little, we judge that this does not override your own interests or freedoms.

Your rights

You may ask to see what we hold about you, have it corrected or erased, limit how it is used, object to its use, or receive a copy in a portable format. Write to us and we will respond within the period the law allows. If you are unhappy with how we have dealt with a request, you are entitled to complain to a data protection authority, such as the Information Commissioner's Office in the UK or the supervisory body in your EU country.

Audience

Scenic View is written for adults. We do not knowingly gather information from children.

If our practices change, this page will be revised and the date below moved forward.
